Hi, I am running into an error and much googling has led me to close-
but-not-quite solutions (including related one linked at bottom).
Specifically, I am unable to open Ubuntu Settings either via the GUI or
command line. When I run the command line, I get this error:

I found that this issue could also be triggered by chrome-remote-desktop
After uninstall chrome-remote-desktop, this issue is gone.
(In fact, disable remote connections also helps. Not necessary uninstall
chrome-remote-desktop.)

Hi,
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with Evolution 2.28.1
In Evo, I select EMPTY TRASH and nothing happens.
I noticed that all the trash items were previously marked as junk
I Undeleted them and attempted to delete a single item not previously marked as
junk
The EMPTY TRASH still fails to clear out the TR
I haven't been using Evolution, since I began using Google's Calendar.
I tried the problem again after receiving notice of the importance
change. I'm running Lucid 10.04 up-to-date.The double-click on the
date in the panel's drop-down calendar opens Evolution (2.28.3) with the
correct date.
Run 2.6.32.11. Lid detection works as in 2.6.34-999 and 2.6.32.14.
So, the bug is in Ubuntu kernel patches. ;)

On 2.6.34-999 (daily) the lid recognition works. Especially for
everything except screen blanking. Computer suspends, when you close the
lid, but if the setting is set to blank the screen, it's not working

work. While closing, the display turned off for 1 second. Than it became

I installed totem-xine the normal way using Synaptic. Two problems:
1. It does not install a menu item in the Applications>Sound&Video menu.
2. When I launched totem-xine from a terminal, it would not run. It exited

I concur with Greg about Evolution's poor page layout problem. When I
print an email message, the printing starts at top edge of paper and
continues to bottom edge. There are no top and bottom margins. This is
not merely a problem of setting the margins -- Evolution's page setup
dialog doesn't p
One more idea: Since Evolution has is origin in Novell, I wonder
whether Evolution on OpenSUSE does any better with print formatting.
Anyone have OpenSUSE available to check it out? Maybe that will give a
clue about where the margin settings are actually kept.

but 36931 appears to be fixed, however, xchat-gnome does not
automaticlly install enchat (package libenchant1c2a), so a user get's a
blank list of spellcheck languages in xchat-gnome.
Either a message needs to be placed in that blank window advising the
user to isntall package libenchant1c2a for s

the only piece of software that uses gnome-keyring on my system, as far
as I know/use)

update from previous post:
I tried two things differently this time (realised just then should have tried
one then the other):
1) pre-formatted root and swap using gparted (inside livecd session)
2) when you arrive at the mountpoint setup screen, the swap partition was
listed first. I re-order
I see this also, using todays (20060430?) 'desktop' cd.
Has happened twice, going in for the thrid go now.
Ran installer and from desktop with these steps:
* selected manually partition
* created a root partition, and swap, (these are to be formatted) and asked to
re-use /home parition w/o forma
Tollef Fog Heen: The errors are that the chosen layout/shortcut etc.
isn't changed and there is a error coming up everytime one starts the
session or tries to change a keyboard layout option.
