Line number 283 was empty, I delete it, then saved changes, gedit opened
the file correctly.
How did you know that it is that line that made the problem? Would you
please give me info? because I have many other files that has the same
issue.

Same here, I am using Karmic amd64 (upgraded from Jaunty), this symptom doesn't
happen in fresh install.
