there is a related bug report in Fedora's bug tracker:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=431178
However, I think the proposed fix is wrong. The problem should really be
fixed in the application, not in GStreamer (s

I just checked cdplay (a command line tool) and amarok, both seem to
play fine without going to maximum speed. I wonder if gnome-cd, sound-
juicer and RB all use gstreamer?

Binary package hint: rhythmbox
When I play an audio CD in Rhythmbox, the CD drives spins up to maximum
speed, causing serious noise. This is very disturbing, especially since
the lowest speed is enough for CD playback. I can force it to 1x speed
using 'sudo hdparm -E 1 /dev/s
Forget my last comment (that was a bug in my own cairo using program). I
can't reproduce the garbled icons anymore in Edgy.

I just wanted to note that I tried out the newer 6.5.8 version of the
xorg-ati-driver, which shows the same problems...

I am seeing the same problem. My graphics card is definitly not
supported by the fglrx driver. Will the 6.5.8.0 version make it into
dapper?

Yep, this is the same bug. I am also using the ATI driver. Note however
that this only affects the Human theme, other themes seem to work well.
Probably Human plays with some fancy features (transparency?).

Public bug reported:
In several applications I notice that icons are sometimes rendered
wrong. It seems that this only happens in the Human theme, when I try it
with e.g. Clearlooks it looks ok. I'll attach a screenshot.
