I believe that the bug report is about compiz. The problem being that
the window manager should permit *any* window to be maximized via a key
combination regardless of wether the window has maximize/restore
buttons. This is, therefore, a system wide facet of compiz.

I've tested this feature with a mouse and 2 trackpads, in single screen

Note that if I put the cursor to the far right of the screen, and do a
"quick" swipe with the track pad, it moves the cursor all the way to the
left of the screen. It then takes severaly quick swipes to reveal the
launcher, but only one slow swipe.

I discovered today that the speed at which I point with the trackpad is
a critical factor. If I do it slowly, it causes the launcher to appear
more easily.
Also, I am using a Dell Mini 10v, with a bog standard, trackpad. I don't
think it's right to chalk this up to a "driver" issue.

Having a setting that needs to be tweaked in order for the launcher to
work is not a solution to this bug. Ubuntu should work without
configuration, especially for something as essential as revealing the
launcher.

ok, so you're not supposed to use "input" from Python ... according to the
documentation:
The "input" signal is emitted when the value changes. The value_ptr is a
GPointer to the value that cannot be accessed from PyGTK. This signal cannot be
handled in PyGTK.

I don't see this getting fixed for Maverick, though it is a very
unfortunate situation. For natty, we may need to change the system to
first capture video without any encoding, and then encode it after the
fact (rather than do it on the fly as cheese tries to now).

Last night we confirmed this issue and a Dell mini 10v running Lucid as
well as on Maverick. An update to cheese yesterday seems to have
ameliorated the issue on my Maverick Desktop though.
