I have now made some programming attempts. :-o
Managed quite a bit, I think, but couldn't fix the problem.
Firstly:
I located the the totem-2.30.2.tar.bz2 and downloaded it.
Opened the totem-youtube.c file (via browser) and copy pasted your patch to the
right line, and it was saved.

I am sorry, I cannot report my bug properly, I have tried reading the
instructions.
Also, I found a bug report, with a fix of this problem, that has not been
reviewed and released yet. Or perhaps it is not helpful for other version than
lucid, I dont know, bare with me...

Please, this is too technical for me. I have ubuntu lucid, and I get the
above message, even when i'm in 'youtube'-mode in totem. i have checked
that youtube is enabled: edit < plugins..
read somewhere that if you don't have gnome-sth then it is expected this
error.
But i just installed the whole
