Looks like this might be fixed already. I just restored from a backup
(resized partitions smaller). Thought I might have made the backup pre-
bug, but there's no updates available.

Just now I did another update/upgrade and I see plymouth was updated.
The script in question now uses /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pango/ instead
of /usr/lib/pango. Bug fixed.

On March 21 2011, when I filed bug 739290, I was able to change the
resolution with the methods described there. (Initially 800x600,
switched to 640x480.)
I went to change the resolution again, and now update-initramfs -u fails
with the following errors:
cp: cannot stat `/u
