I disagree that this bug is greeter related (even if you set your new
password, you haven't told greeter to use it to login, but there is
still the option chosen to log in without one).
What this does, which is more serious for the new user, it's that it
disables the admin password and effectively
My problem is very similar, so I don't want to open a new bug, but want
to confirm this one.
I was using Ubuntu 10.04 and backed up my Evolution address book and mail
before a fresh install of 10.10.
After the install, all adresses show up fine in my address book (after
restoring the settings),
do it.
If you don't like this behaviour, that's a shame, as it is just what
Ubuntu represents to me - an easy to use system, where things just work
=)

Glad to hear there is progress in this =)
It is embarrassing when Ubuntu can't do such basic operations without
using the console! This is one step in bringing the OS in bar with other
modern systems.
Michael is right about the need for options. I am keen with the
simplicity of Gnome when it does
o spare?
This could be at least our short term solution, before the whole
printing system gets a revamp of some sort =)

Both /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog doesn't show anything of
interest. If I knew how, I could raise the detail level to debug. I
don't remember how to do that, though...

Don't want to start another bug for this, because this is related:
Nautilus CD burner does not seem to recognize the maximum burn speeds of
my drive / the cd's to be burned.
If I right click the cd icon on the desktop and select Copy Disc, I can
choose a write speed from the menu. The choices go

Live CD.
This happened twice when I wanted manually edit the partition table.
1. Removed all partitions
2. Created three primary ext3 partitions in hda (about 20, 35 and 1.5 GB)
3. Set mountpoints to "/", "home" and "swap" (

Related to this, sometimes after the authentication is done and I should get my
desktop back I am instead greeted with the window that pops up when you press
the power button.
If I press the Cancel button, it gives me my session back. That is just another
step I wouldn't bother taking.

I found out how to enable the screen locking on resume. It is done by setting
the locking on when screensaver is active.
However there are other problems with this setting. After resume, when I have
entered my password and the screen unlocks the next thing that happens is that

This doesn't happen to me (using Flight 6 on MSI S250 laptop).
I tested this by locking the screen and suspending the machine with sleep
button. Also hibernated it via lid close. Both times when I resumed the session
the lock screen came right back.
Power button did not have any action here.
