As I said, I switched off "assistive technologies" - and from then on,
everything ran smoothly. No more freezes, and even better, my X server
has stopped crashing (it crashed about once per week). Thanks
everybody!

I can confirm this bug on my system (Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid). Until now I
always thought that Firefox was the "culprit", as it often froze when I
switched from Emacs GTK to Firefox.
The interesting part is that this bug has so far *never* occurred during
a switch from Emacs GTK to Konqueror, b
Hi Pedro,
unfortunately I'm not able to reproduce the problem. I chose to report
it anyway, as I thought maybe you could make something of it or that it
might be the missing link to an already known problem.
If it happens again I'll try a backtrace, but to be honest, chances are
pretty low.
