Unfortunately whe it runs under valgrind it does not segafult.
However, here it the valgrind log.
Without valgrind I am able to make it crash consistently:
1) start ekiga
2) start a call
3) hang up
4) quit

The only way to get the correct virtual size without manual editing of
xorg.conf seems to be starting X with the external LCD already
connected. In this way the visrtual size goes up to the resolution of
the external display.

I confirm this issue on Jauty.
How to replicate:
1) remove ~/.config/monitors.xml
2) run gnome-display-manager
3) change the settings
4) click on "use previuos settings"
It will fail trying to

I confirm I have the same problem:
- Fn keys do change the brightness and a OSD with the new brightness is
correctly displayed, but the slider in the gnome applet does not update
accordingly
