1) Previous software managers, in Ubuntu, indicated the package-name
upon viewing the details of software, and therefore it has become my go-
to-GUI for discovering package-names.
2) Even when I use a GUI to install software, I like to take note of the
official package name so that I can add that

Temporarily, I'm using pluma instead of gedit as a work-around for the
menu-not-displaying-in-title-bar-issue:
sudo apt-get install pluma
Pluma seems to be some previous fork of gedit, and looks like gedit did about
two versions ago. Here's a screen shot of pluma, where you can see the correct

title-bar, because gedit is currently utilizing the title bar itself at the
application-level (which is overriding the "desktop-environment-level):

I like for application menus to show in the Title Bar (not at the top-
panel). However, in the new Gedit GUI, the menu is inaccessible if your
desktop preference is to show menus in title
For now, here's a work-around that seems to work like gedit did before the gui
upgrade:
sudo apt-get install pluma
Pluma seems just like the old gedit, perhaps it is some fork?
