+1 to Bruce Fields's problem, which affects me too. His workaround fixes
it, too (thanks!). Ubuntu 10.10, totem 2.32.0.

I have Simon's problem. Lenovo T61 Thinkpad, Ubuntu 9.04 with Nvidia
Quadro NVS 140M. I tried the nv driver because the proprietary driver
doesn't support XRandR, but in this configuration, any attempt to make
the laptop display to the built-in laptop screen results in this error.
