I think "ls" would really benefit from this fantastic strategy as well.
I'm sure Mark Shuttleworth would agree that when I run "ls /root" I'm

Mark: Stating that these design decisions are good because ``the people
who made them are good'' is some pretty poor logic---an appeal to
authority if I'm not mistaken. I think the hundreds of upset people
would be better convinced if you presented some sort of an explanation
as to why this design
I agree that this is very annoying. However, it is possible to do this
currently. Just go into your folder, and then press Ctrl+E. It should
permanently delete all messages that are marked as 'deleted'.

I can confirm that this occurs on a clean Gutsy install with all updates
applied on a Dell Inspiron 1420N. It seems to be relatively random and
sporadic.
