After installation of kernel 2.6.15-20-386, I can not reproduce this bug.
Tried with and without framebuffer at boot and with totem-xine 1.4.0 and
totem-gstreamer. All work fine.
Whatever fault there was in the via kernel module must have been fixed.
This bug can probably be closed.

I noticed that the bug only appear if I use the
standard 386 kernel in dapper (2.6.15-17-386 I haven't
tried the later ones). All of gstreamers videosinks
were affected. I compiled my own 2.6.12 with the via
epia DRI patch

Oops, forgot to mention that with my own custom kernel (vanilla 2.6.12
with via patch) all movies play fine. So this should probably be a
kernel driver bug or something...?
