Probably PulseAudio, as I recently tried to play something in VLC and it
would only output sound if the mixer was set to Alsa.

At the moment I've only tried VLC. The slider moves, but no sound is
outputted. I'm not sure if it's using Pulseaudio though. I've installed
the extra pulseaudio tools so I can test the other programs out.
