I had this bug today after installing the Nvidia 100.14.11 driver. I
rebooted and the resolution of gdm and my desktop was set to 1024x768,
while it should be 1280x1024. I then noticed that some new effects were
in place and I then looked at the desktop effects tab of the appearance
window. Desktop
In the sound configuration dialog the control "master volume" is
selected and used. But moving that slider does not alter the volume that
comes out of my speakerset. The PCM slider however does work, but I
can't select the PCM slider as default slider.
