Retested with Ubuntu 19.10 release. Auto login still causes login loop
on above system. Disabling auto login allows login to work as expected.

sudo apt remove appstream works for me, but plasma-discover depends on
it so it is also removed. Lucky for me I didn't really use that any
way.

This "effect" can be turned off. Open gconf-editor then go to apps > metacity >
general > then untick compositor_effects.
Then it goes away.

1) Actions I took
I opened my dvd drive and inserted the dvd into the drive and closed the tray
2) Behaviour expected
I expected Nautilus to open up and show all the (hundreds of ) files and
folders on the dvd.
3) Behaviour encountered
Nautilus only showed 3 files. The "show hidden files" option
