This is a continuing problem for me too. Every restart I have to
reschedule gnome-settings-daemon to "idle" or it grinds my system to a
halt on start-up for minutes on end.
In-case it helps someone else, I do the following:
$ ps -A|grep gnome-settings-daemon
- This will give you it's PID
$ ioni
2 upgrades amd64 lucid
1 fresh install x86 lucid
1 fresh install amd64 lucid
1 8.04 server
1 xp mce
2 xp home
without wins - same old intermittent nautilus / networking
(xp reports master browser issues interestingly enough)

I'm seeing this on Ubuntu 10.04. Assuming no loss, it always shows one packet
lost until you click stop.
After two packets it shows successful as 50%, after 10 it says 90%. Once you
click stop it always says 100%

not an ubuntu issue - but interesting to note- a mixed xp pro - xp media center
"workstations" with a win 2000 server and a win 2003 server - required wins
server to be used to allow "workgroup" consistent connectivity (slightly
simpler than
dns as servers are not internet connected but some wo
i am still using a wins server as that is the only way i get consistent results
even with the xp machines.
new jaunty installs do not network smoothly (ie connections may or may not work
with mostly may not work)
as soon as i add the wins server ip address to smb.conf -and restart samba -
networ
oh, and, sorry, for double posting : the problem occurs also on
archlinux and fedora, nothing specific about ubuntu here.

I confirm. Using Jaunty with the standard french kb layout : same lame
problem. But this should be a rhythmbox problem, not a global xorg/gnome
issue. Wouldn't it be just much easier if an option tab in rhythmbox
enabled users to se their own shortcuts ? (as VLC does).

I've just installed Ubuntu 8.10 on an IBM ThinkPad A31p and I get the
black screen and identical error

to convert a whole family from windows media center to ubuntu hardy, and
they need a big shared directory where all users in the same group
"users" may share stuff (pictures, music, and so on). Umask in
/etc/profile is s
