Having this issue on 24.10 as well. I've been going through the logs,
but I don't know what's relevant and what isn't, at this point.

OK, so I apparently have *that* class of bug (Heisenbug, I think the
joke runs?) that as soon as I try to look at it more closely, everything
starts working absolutely fine. xD;;;
I closed Firefox, Thunderbird, and Discord, then ran a Sysprof, using
sysprof-cli --memprof -- gnome-control-center ba
All right. =) I thought I'd ask, just in case.

I have a couple different desktops installed on Ubuntu -- the regular
Ubuntu Wayland and Xorg, but also Gnome and Xubuntu. This installs
additional desktop artwork (wallpapers). As a result, when I open
Settings and go to the Appearance tab, everything suddenly slows down.
