Binary package hint: ekiga
Many webcams support different picture size. In ekiga there is already a
gconf entry to set this up, but it is lacking an easy way to set this
parameter in the preference->video UI.
For *example* the built-in Apple iSight camera needs:

x doesn't ask. Gnome did at the time.
Sebastian, Daniel any idea why gnome doesn't check anylonger? X does not run
and never did xmodmap automatically.

Ok I attached a proof of concept to show that xorg (libx11 and xserver) are
doing the right thing.
How to use it:
edit the main.c file and replace first with 1
build and run
that will set the minimum threshold before the mouse is accelerated.
move the mouse in one corner of the screen
Can you please attach the new xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log. Stop X/gdm/kdm and
xresprobe $driver?
(change $driver with the X driver required to drive your card)

I find it quite strange that installing the ATI binary driver can fix a
bug on a via chipset. anyway it's a driver problem.
