Sometime last week, Empathy stopped being able to connect to my AIM
account. I checked to see if Pidgin had the same problem too, and it
did. I was able to fix the problem in Pidgin by unchecking "Use SSL"
under Accounts>AIM>Edit Account>Advanced
There is no similar setting
I don't care if we're "annoying the developers". To me it sounds like
the whole reason they hadn't worked on this in the first place is a lack
of understanding that a mail notifier is an extremely important feature
to MANY users.
The issue is Ubuntu has made an Empathy to be the default client, a

I really think this should be re-addressed. Many users are making
compelling arguments to adding the notifier feature. I beg that it be
done.
