Do you mean:
you expect a scroll bar to be introduced into the input box when a
sentence is longer than the input box? With all window panes staying the
same size.
However what really happens is that the input box grows vertically to
fit the space and the chat window pane shrinks vertical

hmmm. I double checked this before i sent in the bug report but i cant
seem to get it to reproduce the bug again, It works correctly for a new
added user/ My gnome-settings-daemon is running, at least it is
currently. Ill post both my .xsession-errors and .xsession-errors.old.
