While I was browsing a folder that had around 50 .jpeg pictures and had
2 or 3 incomplete pictures and on a complete picture, eog quickly
flooded my ram and CPU.

I had the same problem in 12.04 Alpha 2. Also, before that happened, I
added the lyrics, sharing, and maybe another plugin and got a bug
message. It didn't apply to any of the available choices and I clicked
cancle; there was an error that didn't noticeably affect anything.

Just because its not a unity issue does not invalidate it as being a

empathy tray icon missing and no setting to disable auto-start

There isn't a tray icon for empathy and it auto-starts in the background
logged on. There's also no settings to available to set auto-start on or
off.

It happened to me too. I went to user accounts but there was no accounts
to configure. I later restarted and got a report that gnome-control-
center crashed.
