Have confirmed this to be an issue on other distros besides Ubuntu
budgie. Usually restarting the window manager solves it. Wondering if it
is something to do with gnome 3.28.
We never had this issue in 17. 10. Which was running on a previous
version. The lastest change to the UB stack was the ver
@arter97 - in my scenario, I have never had Compiz running (Does not

I just found out another detail quite by accident.
My system is set up to use the “fn” key to make the F buttons behave as
an f button (F1-12). Meaning by default a press will trigger the volume
up/down, etc.
So when the audio keys conk out… my other f key functions (brightness,
I had forgotten to update my comment (wrote on 2018-03-28: ) - About a
day later the behaviour returned and the caffeine test was not
effective.

Another test I just completed. In a situation where my shortcuts were
working… I put caffeine on to prevent sleep or hibernation… and my
shortcuts are still working. Granted I was not doing a lot on the
machine over this time… Used it for a bit and then went to bed. But 8
hrs later. still good. I’m

Okay, I'm *finally* back home and was able to test this...
I can confirm part of what Thierry suggested. I removed
~/.config/monitors.xml and that got rid of the Samsung flashing monitor
on reboot.
It comes up in cloned monitor mode, dropping down to the lowest common
resolution, which is 1280x8
orked just fine. So perhaps the problem is monitor specific? My
monitor is a relatively common Samsung SyncMaster 2333 24", that has worked
perfectly from Hardy -> Maverick. It's only Natty that's batty.

Attaching a fix for gdm. I've tested that it does the right thing,
looking for a .face file in /home/.ecryptfs/$USER/.face.
I'm hoping that seb or pitti will have a look at this, upload to Ubuntu,
and take care of upstreaming to Gnome.

This bug is similar in spirit to #43066 and #187540, but I believe its a
separate issue.
I have the panel with the Window List setup with the following settings:
orientation left, 200 pixels, expand on. I have three monitors using
xinerama.
Any idea when this might be released? This bug is driving me nuts...
