just a random lock up with the same symptoms. But it seems that you are
right about the Touchpad lock. Good catch.

I discovered that I too had been affected by this bug after a dumb
attempt to speed things up a little and removing gnome-power-manager
from the list of startup applications. Adding it back to the startup
applications and adding it to my current session corrected the issue
