There is no change after setting
kernel.apparmor_restrict_unprivileged_userns to 0, removing
~/.cache/thumbnails and re-launching Nautilus. All jpeg thumbnails
appear as a purple icon.

Going on three months of an unacceptably broken desktop installation in
which not a single thumbnail will render. The lack of any
troubleshooting information or indication of what is wrong only adds to
the frustration.
