PROBLEM FIXED
Using Ubuntu tweak File type manager Found the associated application
was indeed thunderbird.
Changed this to 'files'

click on third icon at bottom of dash--opens Files & Folders
Click on a file ---no problem
Click on a folder ---opens thunderbird message

2) type sea
3) open search for a file
4) type gambas as an example
5) Double click a folder to open it
6) result is a Thunderbird mail message opens (blank send mail)

Same as 10 and 11 . Tried to view properties and crash notification
occurred but main menu stayed open and was useable except properties.
