I've got Ubuntu 10.10 and just set up Empathy to chat on the ejabberd
channel on conference.jabber.ru. I'm seeing the error a lot.

I had similar problems with the deskbar and they went away when I
disabled the window switcher. Does the problem continue for you guys if
you turn off the window switcher?

Ok, I found an example that really enrages me. Gnome Dictionary won't
let me type in a "z" in Dvorak. I cannot look up the definition of
"zebra"! Instead, it pops up the search bar. That's because dvorak 'z'
is on qwerty '/'.

cibercol, is this with a two-monitor setup?
I have what might be the same problem; when a window happens to be
mapped to the display that the currently-focused window is not on, the
new window is not focused.
