Problem solved! There is no bug at all but in my stupidity only.
The setup of the pop server required authentication, which I did not apply.
now everything is working fine. thanks for your support and long live Ubuntu!!

Hi Pedro,
I know what u mean now. I tried to download mail from www.alice.it and the mail
involved goes straight to the spam box. But I wonder how this can be possible
if u consider that I never use the main server!!

Thanks for your quick reply. The point is that I am a little bit new to
Linux and i don't know how to do what you suggested. Furthermore, few
weeks ago everything worked fine and I did not do anything except
updating the operating system when notified.

While clicking send and receive, evolution indicates a certain number of
messages downloaded but, to my surprise, I cannot see any message anywhere
(inbox, spam, deleted etc.). What happens to those messages? My e-mail address
