Ok, this is getting closer:
I have probably clicked the "empty trash" menu item of the panel-applet
the first time. This will not bring up the indicator icon in the tray
bar. However when I do this now, the window is still in the window list
of the panel but when I issued the bug report, I was not

in the tray bar. I am absolutely sure that there was no indicator when I
posted the bug report.
Maybe the gvsd-trash process has gone wild during the last operation,
however I can currently not repoduce it.

If you mean if there was a tray icon indicating that there is a file
operation in progress, then no, there wasn't any.

I just emptied a Trash with a large number of files and iconized the
"preparing to empty the trash" ( or similar ) dialog. The window
completely vanishes and there is no tab in the window list for it to
bring it back.
