[Bug 851005] [NEW] Unity launcher and panel disappear after update

Public bug reported: After an update issued 2011-sept-15 I rebooted my laptop and no longer have access to the unity panel and unity launcher. They never loaded after the reboot. The system works, has internet connectivity and I can load programs from the command line interface but there is no G
