The tearing issue is tracked in bug 1754284, but it sounds like you have
a workaround. We would prefer you used Wayland instead of Xorg though,
then tearing would never occur. Is there a reason you're using Xorg?

I have the same issue; I have configured grub to disable the splash
screen, and yet the same symptom- of the small "x" cursor appearing on

Agreed that the eventual state is a duplicate of bug #1760849. Something
did go wrong with the original update, causing the loss of some gnome

I can (finally!) navigate through the folder icons, renaming a folder is
still possible through without mouse intervention while starting the
folder items works reliably
