Thanks for the bug report. It looks like mutter-x11-frames is
segfaulting repeatedly. That's probably not helping. Let's treat this as
a crash and see what else might be crashing. Please follow these steps:
1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.t
Please also try:
sudo apt install libnvidia-egl-wayland1
and reboot. In case it's another side effect of bug 2062082.

I've noticed through multiple bug reports that recent kernels have
become pedantic about bandwidth requirements and therefore which
resolutions they are willing to offer.
Also 5120x1440 at 60Hz is right near the limit of what the i7-8565U can

Does the problem only occur in the shell, or in apps too?

Oh OK, it needs two separate fixes. So
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2542 should not be listed
as the upstream issue.

If https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2542 is the upstream
issue then the fix went into Mutter 44.0. Noble should be "Fix Released"

That same fix is in 42.8 already, meaning Jammy is already fixed too.
If you think it's still not fixed then I can only assume that
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2542 is NOT the upstream
issue(?)

I agree it's not good design, because we do keep getting the same bug
report... The design has however improved in 24.04 compared to 22.04 so
please make sure you're using 24.04. If that's still not enough then you
have two options:
1. Contact the Ubuntu theme designers by adding a comment in

Mutter autopkgtests are failing if a GPU exists but is not accessible.
Surprisingly this only just started becoming a problem recently:

Yes I would expect the crash in .3, and can see it reported in .3:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/65513baf83b5ba140d09c2aa71b988097108cde0
but it has always been intermittent and doesn't crash on demand when I
want it to.
