Julian, you are right, but apparently this is a bug in Gnome shell,
which manifests itself equally in Ubuntu and Fedora.

I tested just with the gnome-shell package 45.1 available on mantic-
proposed and still crashes. I will wait the release of mutter 45.1 to

GIMP 2.10.34-1
I can sometimes get a couple brush strokes in, but consistently, the
program crashes quickly once I start using the drawing tablet. I thought
maybe it had something to do with multi-monitor setup, but it happens
when only using one monitor as well

applied the patch.txt file with "patch -p1 < patch.txt"

had the same issue on my thinkpad t16 (amd) on 23.10. I did some updates
and it fixed the issue

Accepted gnome-shell into mantic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/45.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
