I went back and tested lunar on the same machine and there is no bug
there even though lunar has 44.2 now. Makes me think this might be a
kernel issue since mantic has 6.3 now.

Still have the same problem on my Ubuntu 22.04.
The monitor backlight isn't off after lock or after 5 minutes with Screen Blank
power saving options selcted.
I didn't install gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-dock as #7 said.

It is hard to actually objectively judge this as stutter/lag is very
subjective. Though Fedora feels a lot less fluid (i.e. the cursor doesn't seem
to lag a few frames).

There's also some weird flickering between different grey levels of the
background when the login screen starts, and again when it closes to log
in. I wonder if that's related.

In the absence of ~/.config/monitors.xml (meaning the user has never
pressed the 'Keep Changes' button), Mutter will start up in a linear
layout with all monitors turned on. I think you can sometimes see this
on Xdcv login (and always see it on Xorg login), but for some reason the
secondary monitor
Trying to pinpoint where the problem can be I found that the problem is not
present in fedora with the exact same set up. I think there is something in
Mutter or Gnome that is different in Ubuntu that let's this bug appear.
Using Fedora fixes the issue for me but I thought I'd post it here for fu

upstream Mutter on Xorg. Seems it's something of a feature because
Mutter only supports:
