I would have used a version number of 1.44.1-1ubuntu2~ppa1 as this is
greater than 1.44.1-1ubuntu1 and less than 1.44.1-1ubuntu2.

I was also a little unclear on what to do about the version number--I
forced something non-standard (1.44.1-1ubuntu1-test) so that it would
locally supersede the current ubuntu version but not block updates.

The debdiff here looks fine, although the debian/changelog should
reference this bug report using the syntax (LP: #1927100). Because this
fix is for a stable release of Ubuntu we need to follow the Stable

I'm sorry we didn't get to this before the release of Impish. This would
now need to follow the Stable Release Update process
(http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdate). Would you mind filling out
the SRU template paying attention to including information about
upstream testing of microreleases?
I'm unsubscribing the sponsors team as there seems to be an active
discussion regarding the merge proposal and that should be resolved
before anything is uploaded.
