Animated backgrounds don't use animated gif's, they have an xml file
that describe a set of png files and the required transitions.
See /usr/share/backgrounds/gnome/adwaita-timed.xml
and /usr/share/gnome-background-properties/ug-utopic-wallpapers.xml
for some examples

that other xml file, is how you make images show up under the
wallpapers tab in g-c-c backgrounds

Inconsistent cursor visibility with c
A user reported this problem for the latest SmartGit, too, though we
already set a couple of environment variables in the launcher script to
prevent it. He runs Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon and had the "Global
Application Menu" applet installed. After disabling that, SmartGit did
not crash any more.
