I noticed this on a freshly installed laptop with Utopic Unicorn. FWIW
it has two monitors connected (internal + external via HDMI).
Oddly enough, another laptop ofmine with a single screen, which was
upgraded to Utopic, does not have this problem.

I had the same problem (gedit hangs and mouse disappears) on a freshly
installed Ubuntu 14.10, but without reaching 100% cpu utilization.
Disabling ibus as you suggested solved the problem; not only in gedit,
but also in a few other applications as well.

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1301120, so is being marked as such.
I have this bug too but it also affected the keyboard, when typing every
few seconds some key presses would not register.
I installed ibus-gtk as recommended above and the problem has gone.
