This BUG still exists in file-roller 3.8.3 (13.10 dev)
The bug report submitted to GNOME several months ago indicates NO activity
which would lead one to believe that it is being ignored. Might there be a
Ubuntu-centric workaround?

I found a workaround:
As I am using Kubuntu (=Ubuntu with KDE), not all Gnome packages are installed.
So I manually installed "gnome-keyring" (+ dependancies "gcr",
"libpam-gnome-keyring"), which seems to be the password backend for Evolution.
Now Evolution asks for a password :)

Correction: The problem appears with Banshee and Rhythmbox, but it does not
appear with Quod Libet, which also uses GStreamer.
This may mean it's not a GStreamer problem at all, but more a problem of
correctly using GStreamer.

Two quick corrections/addenda:
1. I'm not sure why this got categorized under gnome-terminal; I
thought I specified the "terminator" package during submission. Sorry
for any confusion. I'm a bit new at this.
