I had a similar problem, and found a workaround. All I did was
completely remove the three folders in ~/.thumbnails: fail, large and
normal. Nautilus then re-reads the metadata and assigns new icons to all
the files on the computer. I hope this helps.

About the login/logout buttons, I wouldn't remove them: without them,
the session will start as soon as the value of the service selector
changes, blocking the user from selecting another service.

I'm back on Ubuntu 12.04. Here's the mission control log I got from the
debug window, after clearing the window and adding the 2nd gtalk
account. Empathy still crashes. I have version 3.4.2.3 now. Also, the
'Edit Custom Messages...' window is blank.
