I was doing nothing more than browsing the web with firefox and it
happened. I'm running gnome-shell on Ubuntu 11.10 and the only two apps
I had open were gedit and firefox. I heard my proc fan spin up so I
checked my process list and found gvfsd-afp using up 100% of one core.

so, the issue here seems to be that there are 2 packages that are easily
confused in Software Center.
The first is gnome-control-center, which is the "System Settings"
application that is installed by default, and shows up in the Dash, but
is listed in Software center with the title of "utilities
Having a +/- button suggests that I can add and remove images, when I
can't. I'm no design/usability guy, but that really sounds wrong to me.
Also, having an image group called "Pictures Folder" suggests, that it
has anything to do with "~/Pictures" when it doesn't seem to.

is a known and intended side effect.
Also note that the wallpaper is never really added to the pictures
folder -- just to a cache directory that appears under "Pictures Folder"
in the UI (which is a bit of a lie, imho).

Just fyi, I see this issue using: gnome-terminal on openbox, evolution
email on openbox. I've read elsewhere of the the same issue with awesome
window manager. No issues when using gnome3. Started to see it on
getting gnome 3.4.1 updates. Evolution is almost unusable on openbox.

Then RANDR extention is not running as expected. I am using the latest

Attached the patch which adds ArialMT alias to /etc/fonts/conf.avail/30
-metric-aliases.conf, that is fontconfig-config package. I tested it on
PDF document without ArialMT subset included and it works fine.

I can discover, pair, and connect my HTC Thunderbolt Android 2.x device
with no problem using Ubuntu 12.04. I can even send files to it.
However, I cannot browse the Android file system in order to get files

the unity launcher with a right click, it is actually running "empathy
-p" which runs empathy and raises the preferences dialog. Then you
close the contact list window, activating empathy again to raise it
seems to use the "-p"

I am seeing the exact same behavior on my 12.04 desktop. If you leave
the Privacy screen and return to it, the "Send error reports to
Canonical" checkbox remains unchecked. Note that it does stay checked if
you just switch to another tab in the Privacy screen and return to it
without closing Privac

Actually, with the new audio dialog, the Volume slider at the bottom
doesn't react to scrolling at all. Neither does Balance in the right
pane of the Output tab. The slider in the Effects tab also doesn't
react. And not per-application audio.
