In Precise kernel, it already provided an interface to turn on/off the
tourchpad LED
/sys/class/leds/dell-laptop::touchpad/brightness
Other patches are just quirks to add more machines to have this
interface, so I don't think it's so urgent.
The problem is that there is no userspace app
ps. For other making this switch please know you don't need to restart
your whole machine. Just enter:
sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart
After you've made the edit Conor suggests.

In "Sound Settings"->"Input" the input level does not change when I
choose my different microphones.
