I've commented on the upstream bug tracker. The patch did not fix the
crash for me but a simple additional check with the patch did fix the
crash. Looks like we getting close. As before, I still get the "I/O
error" messages.
I've attached the upstream patch and my hacked version that works for
I think the fact that this "bug" affected so few people and that it was
never brought up before goes to show that it was never a bug in the
first place, it was an "annoyance" for some people but the "fix" was a
full blown disaster for many more. I don't like having to put close
buttons on my panel
You could also just as well throw the wmctrl commands in the shortcut
itself, I can't remember why I didn't do this in the first place. . . I
think it's because I used them between different desktops, anyway here
are the shortcut files, you still have to install wmctrl though.

(which will become 10.10) to test with it. You can download the latest
ISO image, and use the live CD to run Maverick for a test. That way it
will not install anything on your current system and save you the

It took a bit for the package to become available on my national mirror,
but I can verify now that the package in lucid-proposed fixes the issue
and also produces the expected results when working with users who's
real name is "David & Pezi "

dar: I feel the same way. People have been reporting this bug for
years now. The devs seem to pick up on the first "works for me" report
and close the bugs.
Surely there's an alternative to nautilus we could be using.

I had it happening on bug 1 so it might be related to a bug with a lot
of subscribers.
Just tried it now and it worked on bug 1 so maby it has been fixed, or
just gone away.

Do you notice "??" in the gdb-evolution-2.txt ,like :

that means we have the debugging symbols missing for those.
You need to install debug packages for those
