- on every boot the crash happened at the very beginning after the session is
opened
- if the first crash popup is not closed by user, then multiple other crashes

This issue is solved by disabling Desktop Effects from within System >
Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects > "None"
The problem with this issue is that the "fix" is just a workaround. I
would like to continue using Visual Effects on my desktop, and use VNC.

This was a problem only with my first install of 9.04 on my netbook.
Subsequently, I managed to get that version patched up to a workable
form, (I forget exactly how). 9.10 and 10.04 installed and ran without
any substantial problems. I only experienced this with netbook remix,
not with the generic
acpi-support is unrelated to processing such events. If the power
management GUI becomes unavailable, but upower --dump still returns,
sounds like this is likely to be a gnome-power-manager bug; reassigning
there.

The owner was root:root, must have changed it by mistake when I put back
password from previous install of Ubuntu. Doing chown root:shadow
/etc/shadow and chmod u=r,g=r /etc/shadow fixed the problem.

However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the ins
What's ls -l /etc/shadow look like? /etc/shadow should be 640, owner

Thinking about the 30 minute suspsend when idle more. Off the top of my
head I can think of some use cases that can be impacted by this:
