I tried the suggestion in comment #74, to disable the floppy in bios -
rebooted, plugged in my flash drive and...nothing :(
But, I no longer see the floppy drive icon. So, that's an improvement AND I
shaved several seconds on my boot time too!

software with a .exe file (ironically which includes the new external

I looks like that mount doesn't hung for me because it didn't appear when I ran
the pstree command right after log-in. I made a bootchart and mount runs in an
instant. I do observe though those long idle times at login.

OK, Tony's problem was that compiz was not installed but was configured
to be used. Was this after upgrading from Karmic?
The original problem in the other bug was also compiz missing, which the
reporter fixed by installing meta-packages. I don't think that bug

Found that the swap file was not large enough to allow the computer to
hibernate.
Had (2) 20G drives in the system. Now Removed.
Install a new SATA 500G HD and system runs fine.
Found that the swap file needs to be 2-3 times larger then the RAM you have.

I have the system upgraded till the latest packages, and it continues to
happen with gnome-terminal.
I've tried with terminator and with this it's much faster. I would say
that it's less than one second to open a new tab.
My computer is a bit old, with 1Gb of physical RAM. But I've compared the
Pedro, question is about the meaning of "local traffic"
Color setting in preferences is ok, but need another setting defining what
should be considered as LOCAL traffic.

you need to open a new bug with ubuntu-bug. Please open a terminal and
run 'ubuntu-bug linux' then choose the right options there and open that
