Upon move/delete of server files, I expected the disc space to become free.
Instead, the HD does not recognize the space is free and does not make the
space available to write new data. This is true for all HDs installed in the
server.

really knowing what I was doing, because of a bug in an upgrade that
left me without a gui. Eventually I figured out how to use the tar.gz,

This is very weird indeed as I can no longer reproduce the issue (it was
simply opening System Monitor and it wouldn't close when clicking on the
X). I bet there have been some upgrades to some of the dependent
packages, which is my only explanation for it working now.

I reinstalled Ubuntu 9.04.10. I went to terminal windows and did it via
CLI. Had no issues then.
Did an init 6 and had a clean reboot. Went to Synaptic Package Manager
and could update the rest of what I was missing.

I am experiencing the exact same issue and Saramburu solution doesn't
work for me. It must be because of recent updates since this issue only
started today and I was able to unlock my screen many times a day just
recently.

Without an option to listen to localhost only it is impossible to
securely connect to vino server through SSH tunnel. I would say Ubuntu
is insecure with such kind of default client. It usually a matter of
hours before you get scanned by some roaming droid that will try to
break the pass next try.

I guess you meant "prior to second attempt". On fresh boot, before
starting users-admin, the stb should not be running (as on your
screenshot).
A standard way to get information would be to use gdb. Can you try "pidof
system-tools-backends; gdb attach " and then "thread apply all bt"? I

Well, if your clock shows the right time, then no chance the current bug
can raise fsck issues. I don't think the time can become incorrect
because of the crash, since the system settings should not be modified.

To follow up on this more I bring the example of the Lenovo Thinkpad.
It has 3 ways of recording audio:
1) internal mic
2) mic jack
3) dock mic
* if your on a docking station you can have a microphone attached. This is a
seperate codec (mixer) from the mic jack.
