I have HDMI as well and I think this is not a bug. The audio going out
is digital and so intentionally bypasses system volume. To change the
volume you have to do it at the application level, or on the volume of
the device receiving the digital audio.

I'm having a similar problem in Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit. I'm using AD
authentication. If I lock the screen, and then put in the password to
unlock, it quickly takes me back to the screensaver, and then if I move
the mouse, it justs asks for the password again, and this can keep on

Detlef and I had an IRC session about this issue.

Actually, this happens on every system I've used, with older AND brand new
mice, as well as trackpads.
But I can see how this could be too difficult to fix as a papercut.
By the way, this happens on nearly every gtk software.

it's gnome-settings-daemon -- pops up a notification to tell the user.
Under the old notification daemon, this would pop up as a bubble, once per

I agree with Laurens here. Users will definitely want to configure
and/or theme their login window, if this feature is missing it will
definitely be a regression because all the previous versions of Ubuntu
had this feature.

Removing the file
"/usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/metacity.desktop" solved this bug
for me. I don't get any error messages anymore, and gdm works properly.

quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of

I disagree with with setting this to priority Wishlist. Having a
graphical configuration for the display manager may be a wish for a
server distro, but it certainly is a requirement for Ubuntu. Also this
definetly is a regression.
