I am also seeing this in Jaunty, but not sure if it's gdm at fault or the
kernel (unlikely). Will run apport for more debugging info.
Marking Confirmed, Low.

I would mark this bug as Critical since it causes data loss but can't
seem to find a way to do so.

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
At random intervals (a few times a week), the new gnome-power-manager
says "The battery is below the critical level and this computer is about
to shut down." and proceeds to turn off the computer, even though the
computer is plugged in
Does that hack sustain upgrades?
If not, can you try something with xargs for me?

Here's a radical idea: since nobody seems to be doing anything about
this, and since I've never had a use for that codec installation thing
in _any_ program, I just got rid of it completely:
sudo rm /usr/bin/gstreamer-codec-install
There. Problem solved.

I can confirm this. Ekiga 3.2.0 on Jaunty 9.04, minimum of 2 seconds
delay. Upon further investigation, the delay is just on sound output:
the opposite side hears audio immediately. This suggests some kind of
problem with a jitter buffer, or maybe pulseaudio.
