I made a brief survey tonight among members of a LUG I am in.
One person tried to figure out how to change the mouse pointer, and gave
up after trying for a while.
His teenage son managed to find the dialog, with a fair amount of
prompting from me.
Another person, who is very familiar with Fedor

installed dvd::rip under Kubuntu KDE3 -> No icon. Then, I logged into my
parallel install of KDE 4 (from ppa), and the dvd::rip icon is there. On

I confirm this behavior , steps to reproduce the lag.
1 open aplications menu
2 move mouse rapidly up and down the menu .
after a short time the highlighting lags the mouse pointer and jumps eraticly

Update: I set the power management to "do nothing" when laptop lid is

Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy
The second current way to get to theme (and thus mouse pointer)
selection, is to right-click on the screen background, bringing up a
menu which allows one to select "Appearance Preferences" in addition to
'Background' - one of these choices is "Theme" which works as above.

This bug is quite ancient, but I seem to have the same problem with my
Eee PC running Hardy. I realize the logical default behavior may be to
turn off all displays when the laptop lid is closed, I just need to know
how to make a change to that behavior, since I would prefer to close the

the trace is missing a lot of symbols, can you please apport to send the
report? please follow this instructions to have apport report a new bug
about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.
If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/

What about ownership of your ~/.kde/* files in your /home directory?
I solved a similar problem by executing this simple command:
(I don't know yet how was that possible, but in my case some files in ~/.kde
directory were owned by root.)
