My Dell Inspiron 8600 just goes black without any warning at all and I
lose all my work. Quite frustrating, as you can imagine. It just
happened and I'm restraining my anger.
I have my Power Management settings to "Suspend" for critically low
battery, but, of course, it does nothing. No warning
I think that the problem is actually that listening.at refuses to respond

I would guess this should be assigned to 'gnome-sound-properties', as
changing settings there seems to have fixed the issue. As per Niels
comment above, changing the mixer settings to "ALSA" caused the sound to
work properly again.

Did a very quick check, and it seem to work. The Trash behave as
expected: show full when something is deleted in one of the autofs
mount, we can empty trash just fine and we do not get the error in the

Update: Try turning compiz off and seeing if the screensaver works, I
did, and it works. There is a feature in General Prefs that says
something about disabling for fullscreen things; do that and it should
work. The compiz-fusion IRC on Freenode helped me out and fixed this

events in GNOME assigned to anything other than "No sound" in
System->Preferences->Sound->Sounds, Ekiga cannot access the audio device

Re MikeK's comment - yes using the IP address usually works, but the
reported problem is that the name or graphical solution is broken for
many, if not most users. We shouldn't have to insert the IP address to
use this feature.

I am running FireStarter, but it shows no blocked connections, and disabling it
and the firewall on my debian smb server doesn't stop the problem. There is no
hardware firewall on my internal network. My windows (sorry :-) ) machine
doesn't have this problem.

Also, the same exact issue here. I see that I have the option of
extending my desktop going through the same steps as Thue Janus
Kristensen but nothing takes effect. Here are my specs:

The new crash file is attached. I'm not sure it has all the information
needed. Suggestions for extra debug libs to install? Just installed
libgtk2.0-0-dbg, after the crash.
I can try to keep gdb attached to it, if needed. It's been about a
month since the last one.
