The sound issue has to do with group membership. The only users that get
"sound" are members of the audio group. You would have to set up nis to
allow passing low GIDs and make the user on the server a member of audio

Yes, I think that is just a way of getting the panel blocked. And independently
of the CPUfreq applet, when I startup linux I still get the panel blank.
Just wondering, if it does have to do with CPUfreq applet, maybe the startup

The issue with your description is that "unexpected behaviour" "strange
behaviour" are not describing anything. It's easier to understand few steps
described:

I have exactly the same problem here! When I try to play ogg casts from
Jamendo.org totem-xine gets stuck and does not play any sound. It worked in the
past, but not now.

I have the same problem that the guy (or girl) who posted the bug. When I try
to run totem from shell this is what I get:

I just did at dist-upgrade of dapper to get the beta release. And it sais I'm
on dapper BETA, and about gnome tells me I have version 2.14.1
But I still have the bug/crash
Could it be I don't have gnome-settings-deamon 2.14.1 ? howto check ?

Now, that's just weird. I switched it back to VLC, and now it works
again. I'm stumped.

I switched my DVD auto-play app back to VLC, and now it works again. I even
almost got Xine to work, but I wasn't sure what syntax to use. Totem still
eludes me, though.

Apologies, Phil - I actually meant Dennis, not you.
Okay, when I switched it to Totem, I got the following pop-up window on
inserting a disc:
"Totem was not able to play this disc.
No reason."
Audio CDs do autoplay, and they have all along. The oddest thing is, DVDs
worked perfectly until a

next version of should it be marked as NOTABUG since that's a design
decision?
